"Labour ward brilliant, but Lilac Ward let it..."

About: Hinchingbrooke Hospital

The labour ward were fantastic, although frustrating that they tell you the wrong weight of your baby.

What let this service delivery down was the Lilac Ward. We were told wifes, partners etc were not allowed to stay overnight, but an exception was made for my wife as she did not fell confident there would be staff to support after her C-section and wanted to go home. We were put separately and it's a good job I stayed, as the very few times she pressed the buzzers it took a very long time for them to come and yet they informed us the ward was unusually quiet, so made no sense to why they took so long.

My wife was allowed a certain amount of medication for pain, but did not get this when needed. Around 2am another couple were admitted with their baby, the staff had no consideration or respect for my wife's dignity as they bought this male through and my wife had kicked her covers off whilst napping and was slightly exposed and they were there before I realised what was happening. It would have taken the staff less than 60 seconds for them to have popped in and shut her curtain. My wife was terribly upset and in tears. There was no apology and even when we told one of the midwife's at the next checks her response was "oh". My wife had no issue with that male being there at all, but feels she deserved her dignity to be respected. We have had concerns with the level of care received from hinchingbrooke maternity services before and spoke with the head of midwifery, however we are still waiting for a written response to our concerns that we still haven't received. It is a shame as there are some individuals within this service that are brilliant and you can't fault them e.g breast feeding team and labour ward. The lilac ward let it down dreadfully, making the experience quite a difficult experience. We have our lovely little bundle of happiness now and so glad we never have to go through this experience again.
