I was unexpectedly diagnosed with severe arthritis in both my hips in 2014. My consultant recommended total hip replacements. Having had the good fortune to enjoy extremely good health up to this point, I had never been in hospital before and was extremely anxious about the operations. All staff I encountered were patient and understanding throughout the whole process, doing their utmost to reassure me. The care I received was outstanding. The preparation process (joint school etc) was extremely thorough and effective in enabling me to ensure I would be able to cope with the recovery.
My consultant made sure I knew everything I needed to at all times. Every query, question, concern I voiced was answered supportively and with care. The nurses on the ward were wonderful in their care and professionalism after both ops. The operations went smoothly and my recovery and rehabilitation are now complete. Before the ops, I could only with a crutch and was in constant pain. I had stopped doing most of the activities I loved, had gained weight and was miserable. Now, 2 operations and rehabilitative physio later, I am back to my old self; active, pain free and happy.
I would like to thank everyone involved in enabling this. Thank you to my consultant, the nursing staff at MVH, the physios, OTs and the NHS for giving me my life back.
