Initially went in at 9pm to see the out of hours GP who was absolutely beyond useless and fobbed my illness off as a common viral infection (which they couldn't even name!!) 6 hours later I was having my blood thinned by a team of what I can only describe as gods/goddesses of the night staff. From the second I walked in I was treated with dignity and respect, everybody was aware of my situation despite there being people coming and going every minute of the night. The night team are what made my visit exceptionally reassuring and brilliant. I was constantly offered blankets, tea/coffee and food. All food and drinks were served within 5 minutes of requesting it. Everybody chipping into my obs every 10-15 minutes and seeing if I was comfortable/happy. From 'just an infection' the team diagnosed me within minutes of being in the A and E ward, provided the correct medication and carried out all the right procedures concisely. There was one hiccup where I had a terrible reaction to one of the jabs (needle to the stomach!) which was no fault of their own, this was my own body going into shock at there being a needle in my stomach! The team were quick to check I was okay, offered me water and constantly checked on me. They even gave me a complimentary coffee off their own back when it was starting to pick up with patients coming in more often. I don't think a minute went by every time someone would check on me! When I said I felt fine they insisted I stayed for another hour to ensure everything was fine and looking back they were absolutely right to do this. No doubt I would have fainted on the way back if it wasn't for this extra hours rest. All in all a wonderful team, I felt so cared for and dignified and I'm so thankful to these people for making a terrible evening so easy to get through. Thank you all so much A&E night team!!
