"Never once did they give up on my mum"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Surgery (Wards 16-18)

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted to Wishaw General Hospital in November 2016. She had emergency surgery and was very ill afterwards. However, due to the excellent care and treatment my mum got she defied all odds and was finally allowed home in March 2017. She had been in various wards and units in this time but prior to her discharge she had been in Ward 12 (rehabilitation) from mid January.

When she was moved there she hadn't walked for 6 weeks approx and her mobility wasn't great prior to her taking ill. However, the wonderful treatment she got in ward 12 meant that by mid  March she was walking unaided with a zimmer. The staff in this ward are an absolute credit to the NHS. Never once did they give up on my mum, in fact they encouraged her and built her confidence whilst making her stay as "fun" as possible.

Even when I phoned the ward, they always had time for me and never once did I feel like I was being a pest, even though I know they all busy beyond belief. I honestly cannot put into words how grateful we are for the kind, professional, caring and downright amazing staff of Ward 12 Wishaw General!

Much Love to you all!

Dear Calamy

Thank you very much for your lovely post regarding the care your mother received in ward 12.

Our staff strive to deliver a high standard of care at all times so it is delightful and very rewarding when the staff see it written here, particularly when the staff are as you said so busy.

It was also reassuring to read that staff updated you at anytime and that you never felt a "pest", as you said they are a credit to the NHS and I am very proud of the excellent care they provide.

I hope your mum continues to make good progress and enjoys being back home.

I will ensure your post is shared with them.

regards

Janice
