"An unexpected Weekend"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

When I took to falling asleep in inappropriate places - over my breakfast and whilst walking across the kitchen - it was agreed that I needed to find somewhere more suitable and by consensus the Royal Blackburn Hospital looked ideal.

The journey there was very pleasant.

It was an enormous and capacious yellow taxi. We had individual seats and there was also a bed to use had I needed it. On the way a charming member of staff took trouble to enquire after my special needs and did a great job of keeping us entertained.

At Blackburn we found the booking-in procedure somewhat involved, though I was soon taken to my suite which was called “Acute Medical B’ where I was given my own private apartment complete with ensuite and a handy little table. I have to say that front of house staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and they insisted on my staying in bed all the time even for all those little personal chores that would not otherwise need help. They decided that I had not been imbibing enough and fixed up a bag of juice with a little pump to infuse it directly into my vein to save me the trouble of actually having to drink it.

They made me so welcome and insisted on my staying an extra night, which I thought most hospitable.

If I were going to complain about my stay it would be to say that… no, no, no: I’m not going to complain. I booked in at very short notice so it’s a lot to expect diabetic-friendly fare to be ready, and actually the chicken chasseur was very nice, and when I was still hungry at bed time they brought me a welcome little salad.

Ignore any critical reviews you might read elsewhere. I would go again anytime.
