"Waiting time"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department

We are holidaying in Cornwall and I bought my son in to A&E before 7am as he had abdominal pains. 6 hours later and we have still not been see by a doctor. Nurses have been very nice but we have been left for the majority of the time.

Dear Anonymous

I was sorry to hear that you had to attend our Emergency Department (ED) with your son whilst holidaying in Cornwall last month. Although it was lovely to hear that our nurses were very nice, I am sorry that you had to wait so long to be seen by a doctor and appreciate that this much have been a very worrying time for you. Our Emergency Department experienced an exceptionally busy time mid-April and the number of patients arriving at ED on the morning of the 15th was exceptionally high. Whilst we always try to see patients quickly, this is not always possible. I will share your feedback with my staff so that we can learn from your experience and in future, whenever possible, ensure that patients waiting on treatment are kept informed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and I hope that your son is recovering well.

Best wishes

Ian Gillespie - Matron for ED, MAU and AEC
