"She was cared for by some of the best staff"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

(as a relative),

My nana was admitted to nsech  after ringing an ambulance for her- which arrived within minutes, 3 paramedics who were so great, they took her straight to cramlington after a quick yet thorough assessment.

My nana arrived through a&e and straight away there was staff running around after her, taking blood samples and checking her observations. My nana talked about a dr who she thought very highly of at that time and said he was a lovely person.

After a short stay in a&e she got admitted to CCU with pneumonia she was there over night and all day. The care she received on CCU was amazing from numerous staff on the nightshift and dayshift, she sang their praises they were all angels to her. She then got transferred to ward 3 on the and she spent a night on that ward.

My nana unfortunately became very unwell that night and the family received a call from the nurse in the morning telling us to come in anytime. Another, very caring, lovely  consultant updated the family with nanas diagnosis and the plan. Unfortunately my amazing nana passed away in the afternoon of the 28th, very comfortable and peaceful with her family around her. The nurses again on ward 3 were brilliant and a young dr who confirmed my nanas death was very caring I wish We could remember his name and if you are able to find out please thank him personally, he was such a lovely gentlemen he went as far as giving my Mam a hug before leaving the room. I think I speak on behalf of all my family that we couldn't have asked for anymore from nanas stay in hospital- apart from to have her back! ! She was cared for by some of the best staff over those 3 days and for that we will be forever grateful X

Dear Grateful Granddaughter,

I am so sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your Nana. It's obvious from your note just how deeply she was loved and my thoughts are with you and your family at this very sad time. Do please get in touch if there's anything that you need from us?

Your Nana was only in our care for 3 days and yet it seems you had contact with lots of different staff during this time. I'm glad that on each occasion you were able to feel confident that she was in safe and compassionate hands. I hope that some of these memories are of comfort to you now.

Your Nana deserved care of the very highest quality - I'm glad she got that and I'm glad that she was cared for at the end of her life by the very best staff. What an incredible privilege this is for us.

If you want to get in touch to share your Nana's details I could access her notes and allow you to know the names of the staff who made such a difference. My email is annie.Laverty@nhct.nhs.uk

Take good care of yourself and thanks again for sharing your moving story,

Annie
