"Passed from pillar to post"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I phoned the Grace Centre on advice of my GP, I have three growths in my womb which need biopsies done in them. My GP 'forgot' to do my referral after a scan two weeks ago so one has been rushed through  after I chased it up.

I am very worried about this being cancer, as I am in a lot of pain constantly and various other symptoms.

When I got through to the grace centre they were helpful but couldn't help as my case had been referred to Gynaecology. The receptionist there passed me to a number for one of the secretaries in Gynaecology, telling me they were very nice and would direct me who to speak to and help me find out about my urgent appointment.

I wasn't given a name but this person was very unfriendly, in fact not nice at all. They were abrupt, uncaring and I feel rude. They did eventually look at my records but couldn't see the referral so just told me to phone the choose to book number, I said could they give me that, no they couldn't they didn't know it, again in my opinion, very blunt and abrupt. They just told me to phone the grace centre to get the number to call.

I then apologised for wasting their time and ended the call.

Their manner and way of treating me was simply unprofessional and uncaring. Your policy says patients come first, not clearly for this person who was in my opinion the epitome of uncaring toward me. I had explained my situation of having three growths in my womb and that I was awaiting for biopsies, from their attitude they couldn't of cared any less.

I would not normally complain but I feel like I've been treated very badly by the NHS overall today and this was so unnecessary and upsetting I felt compelled to contact you to make my feelings known about how I have been treated.

Now passed from pillar to post I still, haven't got my appointment date and I'm sat feeling like I don't want to call again and get yet another unhelpful unkind person in the opine.

When you are facing something as frightening as cancer this is the last thing you need to add to the stress of the situation.

Dear 'Rosepetal'

So sorry to hear of this unpleasant experience. Not at all the standard of support and communication we aspire to and I can fully empathize with the added stress and anxiety this caused you at a very difficult time. I am keen to ensure that you now have an appointment. If you do not, please could you call 01823 342565 and speak to Sue Sherwin who is one of the medical secretaries and will expect your call and be able to check this for you. I would also welcome the opportunity to discuss your experience personally with you and to apologise and would ask you to call my secretary Nicola Johns on 01823 342831 to organise this,if you would find this helpful.

Kind regards

Debra
