"I will forever be grateful"

About: Ealing IAPT

(as the patient),

After the birth of my first daughter, I suffered from what I now know was post natal depression but I wasn't sure where to go for help or how to go about it. Fortunately, during my second pregnancy, one of the lovely midwives at Queen Charlotte's Hospital suggested that it may help me to talk to someone on the Ealing IAPT team as she thought I was a little anxious. The following week I received a call for an appointment. That was the first time I met the wonderful Jane. With her help, I navigated the last few weeks of my pregnancy and she told me to contact her once I felt settled after giving birth. Within 6 weeks of having my son, I realised that the dark thoughts had returned with avengence. After a quick email, I was given an appointment a few days later. Jane suggested Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy which has absolutely transformed my life. Over the next 16 weeks, Jane worked with me on identifying patterns that I fell into, ways I could adapt my behaviours and strategies to help my mental health for the future. I started my sessions feeling worthless, lost, guilty and fearful but left them at the end of the course feeling excited about the future and realising that I'm good enough-and that is enough. I will forever be grateful to Jane, the Ealing IAPT Team and the NHS for helping me and my little family. Thank you xxx

Dear Grateful Mummy

We are very grateful that you have taken time out to post about your experience with Ealing IAPT. Firstly because its wonderful to hear how well you have done and secondly because we hope that it will encourage others who are suffering from similar problems and to seek some support from us.

Pregnancy and the arrival of the new member of the family can be a very overwhelming experience for many of us and it is difficult to predict the impact that it is going to have before it happens. It is certainly not uncommon for the "not goodenough" thoughts to creep in and to feel lost and fearful.

We are glad that you did find the help and support that you needed in Jane and that she was able to help you to feel excited about the future and importantly to know that goodenough is definitely, goodenough. We will take great pleasure in passing on your feedback to Jane.

Again many thanks and best wishes for the future.

Dr Louise De Haro

Deputy Clinical Lead, Ealing IAPT
