My GP referred me because of a persistent cyst. I had a consultation appointment to discuss the results of a blood test and ultrasound scan.
I was first seen by a medical student who asked if I was happy to talk with them and they would discuss my situation afterwards with the consultant. When they confirmed that I would not see a consultant myself, I said I was not happy with this approach as my fully qualified and experienced GP had referred me to a consultant. I was then seen by a registrar. Six months later, in the same situation for the cyst being monitored, I was seen by a junior doctor who was confused about the number of cysts I had and I had to clarify the situation with them. This was frustrating and I had little confidence that they had fully explained the facts to a consultant that they popped out to discuss this with. I cannot understand why a referral does not result in a discussion with a consultant. Ovarian cancer is serious and I am not reassured by my experience so far. If my next referral in six months time is managed like this, I will have to ask for a referral to a private hospital.
