When I found out I was pregnant it was quite a shock. I was fresh out of uni and had never met a pregnant person before. I found the Sure Start antenatal classes to be brilliant with helping us understand what was going to happen. We went to NCT ones too but we found them too geared on being sociable instead of telling us what to expect WITH A BABY ON THE WAY! We went to groups when he was 8 weeks old off and on but I struggled with my insecurities as a parent for a while.

Eventually, we got back on the horse, and started going to groups when he was about 8 months old and it's been great for both of us.

Recently, I took part in the Sure Start volunteer training course and met a great bunch of ladies who are doing the Perinatal course with me after half term too! It's great that I've met so many people near by and don't feel so socially horrendous all the time.

We're getting there... but yes, I am crazily grateful for Sure Start's services and for everyone who works there.

It sounds like you have had an emotional time and it is great to hear that Sure Start services provided you with answers to help you understand what was happening to you and your baby. You have come along way over the past few months and training to be a volunteer is a fabulous achievement - well done!

May I wish you every success for the future and that you have many happy years with your baby and your new friends.
