What I liked
Brilliant staff all the way through. Medical staff, from consultants to registrars to SHOs were all excellent (knowledgeable, respectful, and professional). The midwifery teams were similarly excellent and extremely caring too. The antenatal education sessions run by midwives were fantastic, especially the 'active birth' session run at the hospital. I absolutely would recommend QCCH to anyone having a baby, particularly someone who wants to have support for a 'natural' birth. We had several problems with my pregnancy (needing to have amniocentesis and be medically induced to go into labour, having a recessed placenta and needing surgery to remove it), and I was so grateful to be in the safe and capable hands of QCCH staff.
What could be improved
As I had my baby in August, there were a lot of new staff on duty, and it seemed at times that they were still finding their way around the hospital. Still - can't complain as it didn't affect my care.
Anything else?
I wish I could have given birth in the Birth Centre at QCCH (as I had intended to), but as my daughter was more than two weeks late, I had to be medically induced. I was surprised and delighted that non-Birth Centre staff were supportive of my desire to have an 'active' and natural birth. Wonderful birth experience.
"Brilliant staff all the way through. ..."
