"Helped through a difficult time"

About: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital / Maternity care Hammersmith & Fulham Perinatal Mental Health Team

(as the patient),

After suffering a miscarriage during my first year of marriage, my husband and I were delighted to become pregnant again in our second year of marriage. But within days of finding out about the pregnancy I slipped into a dark depression that lasted for weeks. Then I woke up bleeding and ended up in the A&E, the pregnancy was viable but the depression got worse. My husband forced me to the GP to try to get some help. In my fifth month of pregnancy I was referred to Hammersmith & Fulham Perinatal Mental Health Services and got the treatment I needed to overcome the depression and anxiety. I needed this support as my baby was transverse and I went from planning a natural birth to having a c-section. Then my father passed away two days before I gave birth to my son via c-section. I am so grateful I was able to reach out to my support team to get me through that very difficult time.
