What I liked

The level of care offered to my wife during the birth of our son at QCCH was nothing short of brilliant. At every stage, we were treated with intelligence and respect, with all of the team taking the time to explain what was happening and why it was being done.

After a few hours of relatively straightforward labour, my wife had to be taken to theatre for an assisted delivery - our son had become "stuck" as he was facing the wrong way as he emerged from the womb.

The level of professionalism in the theatre was awesome; a whole team of doctors, nurses and midwives tended to my wife with necessary haste but never failing to explain what was happening. This did much to alleviate our considerable nerves at such an incredibly intense moment.

The intervention was a success and after oiur son was born we were moved to the emergency ward where, despite quite cramped conditions, we were treated with care, sensitivity and humour - some great jokes from the midwife put as all at ease.

What could be improved

Very little - maybe bigger rooms but on the whole the hospital is very well equipped.

It did take a long time to be told that we could go home - the lab had lost a blood sample which needed to be re-taken. But this was a minor gripe.

Anything else?

A near-faultless level of care, support and information throughout our stay; without exception the staff were friendly, professional and, most importantly of all, extremely good at their jobs.
