I DIDN'T LIKE ANYTHING! I was induced on 21st February 2009 to give birth to my first child. I was forced into a forceps birth. The drip wasn't turned on to help the progress until my partner noticed it was turned off. The lady who did the IV drip did not know what she was doing. I had 8 people in the room with me, which was very embarissing. I was told my babys heart beat was dropping and he was in distress thats why they had to use forceps, at no point DID my babys heart beat alter. The surgeon that delived my baby kept pushing to forceps and making up countless excuses why I should let her. They was no help with breast feeding, I was told to bottle feed. All the way through my pregnancy the new guide lines wer for mothers to breast feed as soon as I got onto the maternity ward all that went out of the window and they were too eager to put a bottle in. My birth plan was not followed and they did not take into concideration how I was feeling. The night staff on the maternity ward were not supportive and were not polite. They never cleaned my baby or showed me how to look after him. The forceps cut his head and the wound was left open. I got an infection and no one checked the stiches before I self discharged. There was an asian woman opposite to me and she had 8 visitors in at one time and I was told I could only have 2.

What could be improved

Night staff need to learn how to be polite, to use manners and not treat the smallest job as a major chore. The staff need to take into concideration how you feel and expain what is going on. They need to take into concideration a birth plan and try best to stick to it. Encourage breast feeding. Not be-little patients. Not to make decisions for patients.

Anything else?

The midwife was very nice, she was the only person who showed me respect. The overall experiance that I had at Airedale was the worse experiance I have ever had and I never want to experiance anything like it. I would NOT recommed this hospital to anyone!
