I was extremely pleased when my Consultant offered me a place on the waiting list for a TKR.
It was a stressful time awaiting to see when the operation would be carried out due to high bed demand.
I had been experiencing extreme pain in my joint for the past two years and it was having a huge impact on my daily life with lack of mobility.
I cannot fault the treatment I received pre and post operatively
I found all staff members within the Trust extremely helpful during my pre op time and post operatively on the ward I was based.
Staff were extremely helpful and ensured I had no pain post operatively, I was treated respectively and with privacy and dignity.
I was given adequate literature on post op exercises and the physiotherapist who saw me were extremely kind and helpful, however I feel more supervision of a physiotherapist post operatively to ensure I was carrying out exercises adequately would have been of benefit not only to myself but for the overall outcome to the NHS on the cost implications of such surgery.
I was given access to community physio and again all staff very helpful, however
NHS hospital and community physio wise I feel this area could be improved as subsequently I am having private physio therapy and also private access to some of the leg strengthening exercises at a gym as I was unaware that there was no longer gym facilities within the Trust.
I am so grateful to my surgeon for giving me the opportunity to have hopefully a more pain free and improved mobility future. I was so pleased to witness first hand the positive attitude of all staff I came in contact with.
Thank you to All.
"Experience of a TKR pre and post operation."
