From the moment we arrived at the Richard Ticehurst surgical unit at the Conquest Hospital I could see how well the day was going to go. The staff were busy with 6 surgery lists and patients were coming in thick and fast. The friendly staff had a well practiced system and I was dealt with very professionally, efficiently and was made to feel relaxed and not just a number but an individual person. I had a wait for my surgery slot, but that was to be expected, again not feeling abandoned, but constantly updated by various doctors, nurses about my procedure. My wife was able to stay with me until I had to go through to the pre op room. Again very professional staff attended me keeping me informed about what was going to happen and then well, I fell asleep and cant remember anything until I awoke in the recovery unit being attended to by not 1 but 2 nurses, nothing was to much trouble, I did not have to ask for water or pain killers there was a constant monitoring of both my condition and waking up. The nurses did not leave my side during the time I was there. I must say a big thank you to my consultant, and all the surgical staff who I did not see behind the scene. I was transferred to the Attenborough Ward when it was safe to do so, not rushed, but after safe monitoring. I felt in safe caring hands at all times. Thank you to the two nurses.
On the ward, again professional friendly staff who again began to monitor my condition, plenty of attention, tea and toast, everyone happy and pleasant. I unfortunately had to stay overnight which was not expected. This did not cause a problem for the staff, my recovery was more important to them then getting me out and freeing up a bed. Constant attention and professional advice was the order of the day and night. I did not have to ask for anything as the staff were constantly around asking how I felt, pain killers to sickness tablets nothing was to much.
In all everyone who I came across, from changing my operation date, to discharge was a credit to the Richard Ticehurst surgery unit , Attenborough ward, Conquest Hospital and the NHS.
Having worked in the Public Sector for over 47yrs you become aware that not everyone gets the recognition and thanks that they deserve. Its not just a job, the big cogs and small cogs make the system work smoothly and efficiently, its also the people and the attitude they show that makes life pleasant and my praises go to all the friendly, professional team at the Conquest.
10 out of 10 for everyone.
Thank you.
