"Thank You Marie Stopes"

About: Marie Stopes International Manchester Centre

I ended up in this awful predicament after my husbands successful vasectomy failed! I originally went for the medical termination to be told I was just outside the cut off period. The nurse was lovely & booked me in 4 day's later for a surgical appt at 10.50am on a Saturday. I was so nervous about the whole process but these reviews really did help. I actually think the worst part was walking upto the front door & ringing the bell but as soon as I entered I was instantly put at ease. The receptionists were really lovely. They checked me in & I then went upstairs to the waiting room. I went to the toilet (which were lovely & clean). I waited for about 45 mins & was called by the nurse who talked through the contraception I was opting for, they explained the procedure & scanned me. I went back in the waiting room for approx 15 mins & was called by a 2nd nurse. They went through a few more things then I went back down stairs & to the down stairs lounge (waiting area) at this point we were told that we where now on the afternoon list & as some ladies (who where further on) had, had to have other treatment & had to go in before us. This ended up meaning a 3 hour wait (however I was prepared for this). In this time after the ice was broken the 4 of us waiting started conversation & personally for me it was like therapy as we were all in exactly the same position, had a lot in common & it was a relief to actually speak to people about our situation. I was then called at 3.20, I was taken into a small room off the operating theatre, was given a blue sarong type wrap & slippers & was asked to undress from the waist down. I put all my clothes & belongings into a large tub & was called 15 mins later, I went in at 3.40 they introduced me to the Dr's & asked me to lay on a short bed & to put my legs up, it was very fast, they told me I'd feel tingling going up my body to my face then I'd be asleep, a second later I was asleep. At 4.10 I was sat on a lounger drinking tea with biscuits. I was handed my belongings straight away & I then texted my husband to say I'd be ready in 20 mins. I walked out exactly 1 hour later feeling very well. I was very lucky had very minimal bleeding & no pain (but I had 2 ibuprofen just in case). All the nurse's were really lovely put you very at ease and the whole experience was a lot less daunting than I was expecting. From the 1st phone call to Marie Stopes to leaving I could not fault the service they offered. I rang a few day's before my appointment to ask a few a Q's nothing was too much trouble & they rang through to Manchester clinic to ask. My husband was originally going to come with me to the appt however I'm so glad he didn't as he couldn't wait with me & personally for us it was much better he was with our children. Don't be scared to come alone, everyone is so lovely. They made such an awful day so much bearable xxx
