"No one is helping us"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Cardiology

(as a relative),

Currently my sister is living with Congestive heart failure. After a few hospital stays she is now cared for at home by her family. The main problem she has is her mobility. fluid build up is getting worse she is gaining weight every day and getting weaker. Despite several attempts to speak to her heart failure nurse and consultant about this no one is listening to us. We are basically watching her fade away and no one is helping us.

We have done our research and there is medication available which could improve her quality of life drastically but no one will take our suggestions seriously despite the fact that we think she DOES meet the criteria for this tablet. We feel that we are being neglected and that the health trust are failing in their duty of care to her.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear deekay11,

Watching on powerlessly must be a very difficult thing to handle. I am so sorry you have arrived at the point where you feel we have failed your sister and no doubt to you too. I am also sorry your sister is so unwell.

We do want to listen and I am sorry you feel you have not been heard. We really do want to turn this around and make sure your sister gets all the help and support possible. If you can please contact me (today if possible) on 01563 826222 or by email at Eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk we will look into this and take any actions necessary. We can decide the way forward together.

Kindest regards

Eunice

(Contact today is best if possible as I am not in the office on a Friday and I would prefer we do not delay this until next week if at all possible)
