"Door closer keeps breaking down"

About: Falkirk Community Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter is age 25 and has a disability. She is able to do very little for herself. She has various equipment provided by NHS to make life easier. This includes a tablet controlled system that can switch lights on and off, make phone calls and open the front door. The door opener was supplied 10 years ago through NHS by a different company to the tablet which she got last year. The door opener keeps breaking down. It was repaired yesterday and has stopped working again today. So my daughter cannot open the door to let carers in, can't go out and can't open the door to let the repair man in if he comes when she is at home alone. This equipment is supposed to make her more independent but it seems to just create more work for me. I have emailed the REACH Team. The office is closed until Monday morning so nothing will be done before then and then probably another couple of days until someone comes to repair it.

Dear Mrs Scottiedogz,

Thanks for taking the time to post this - it sounds a really frustrating and difficult situation that your daughter is in. I've emailed the REACH team myself and hope that someone will be in touch soon to get the door fixed.

If you haven't heard anything then please get in touch with our Patient Relation team to see what else can be done on 01324 566660.

Best wishes

Claire Copeland

Dear Scottiedogz

Thank you for getting in touch, I was so sorry hear that you have had such a difficult time recently with your daughters equipment.

I understand that since your posting a member of the REACH team has been in touch and has arranged for a new part to be ordered to rectify the problem that you have been having, I hope that it is fixed for you very soon.

In the meantime if there is anything I can do to help or if you have any queries, you can contact me on 01324 566523 or alternatively you can email me on p.marland@nhs.net
