It all started with my preadmission interview and checks, this procedure took time but it all went smoothly, the team performing the checks seemed to be in various departments, but it all came together by the end of the afternoon, everyone explained what was happening and why the tests were needed. The surgery which was to take place in a few days, was thoroughly explained to me by the surgeon and anaesthetist.
A few days later, my admission to the day ward C14, prior to surgery early next morning, went like clockwork and the staff could not have done more to make me feel at ease.
The day of the surgery started early and I was handed over to another fantastic team, everything was explained as I went through each stage right up to the time of anaesthetic from which time I do not remember anything till I came round in the recovery area, everyone seemed to be talking to me and all had gone well.
The next I remember I woke in the Critical Care Centre, my short stay there was phenomenal, the attention from the team members was fantastic, the whole room would not look out of place on the star ship enterprise and the care given was tremendous. After a short stay I progressed back to Ward C14 and my further recovery continued over the next few days, with the help of a series of caring and professional teams who all worked well together from one shift to another.
I feel the way I was looked after and encouraged at every stage, with all the help available from all of the other teams who brought their skill into the ward, to assist the nursing staff, this enabled me to make a recovery much quicker than I ever expected and able to return home and I am progressing well.
No one wants to have surgery and this was my first time in hospital, from my experience the whole organisation works well and all the teams do a phenomenal job. Thank you.
