"Disgrace"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

Having been up all night with cystitis symptoms and a pain in my side, I decided to travel to Cramlington to seek help. I had been unwell for many weeks but the symptoms had become aggressive over 24 hours. I was quite desperate and was sure the doctors would examine me. However, the doctor stated that they could simply give me pain killers and refer me back to my GP. I am appalled by the "treatment" received.

Dear anonymous,

I was sorry to read your review about your recent experience at our hospital. I can understand that it could have been quite frustrating to not receive the treatment that you were expecting, however it is very important that our patients are signposted the most appropriate service so that they can get the help they need. The Northumbria is for serious or life-threatening emergencies, and the medical staff will signpost to the service they feel can best deal with the symptoms presented by the patient, in this case your GP. I am sorry if this situation was not handled in the manner that it could have been, and I do apologise for the inconvenience caused.

It is difficult for me to comment specifically on your case due to the anonymity of your review. If you would like me to look into this further for you please email your details to patient.experience@northumbria-healthcare.nhs.uk.

I do hope that your condition has subsided and that you are feeling better.

Kind regards,

Jessica
