About: Priory Hospital Marchwood

What I liked

In the two days I was there, the patently overworked staff most did their best but apart from delivering meals or drug requirements, or constant observations overnight, they were very rarely seen.

What could be improved

For a facility that charges £625.00 per night, the list of items that could be improved is very considerable. These include accommodation that is old, worn and often plain dirty. The bed was small with no medical facilities or attachments. The room, moderately furnished was badly laid out. Although the bathroom boasted a chair lift in the bath, the toilet was stained and brown, witnessed by three of the staff as well as myself and my family.

The hospital consultant, supposed to provide constant attention, appeared on one occasion while I was in residence. A junior doctor came once to fill in forms and promised to return to provide treatment, which he did not do.

On the first morning I was there I ordered a newspaper which arrived on the evening of the second night.

On the third morning, treatment for constipation was provided by an elderly male nurse who caused me considerable pain. The Hospital Director has since written that feedback and coaching was given to the man. Hopefully this will help somebody else, but it should not have been necessary.

Anything else?

I was booked into the facility for 7 days. My family withdrew me on the morning of the third day and I was booked into the Sarum Road Hospital in Winchester which, by comparison, was first class in every way.
