(as a student nurse),

I would like a different care co-ordinator because I feel they doesn't listen to me. I read the bible and go to Church here, the HCA takes me. I read my bible every night and I read the children's bible. I read every scripture, a little at a time each night in my room.

I go out so I go to church and like the uplifting churches better. There is a multi-faith room here but it needs to be livened up, I prefer to go outside to Church. I need to have singing and I need it to be uplifting. I've given up chocolate for Lent. I clap when I go to Church and sing songs, but they don't let you go out to Church at 7 - 8 pm when there is a Church service or 2 - 4 when they have art class on so I can't get to go. We have an artist here but they don't cater for cultural needs, we could cover cultural things.

I buy nice creams and moisturisers which help me as these things help me feel better. Music also makes me feel better and I love gospel music with songs like Alleluia. I like music by Jim Reeves and I have some very nice CDs and music. I have Cliff Richard and Tom Jones, Oli Mars, Diana Ross, Lionel Ritchie. I had Craig David but he broke and I put him in the bin.

I get cook books but the don't have nice food. I would like corn meal porridge sometimes, not from the packet, but properly cooked. Good food helps nurture you. I do activities but I don't want to always make sausage rolls, sometimes I want to cook caribbean food, like rice and peas and Ackee and rice, and salt fish, they sell this is Asda. Two OTs left and we need to have them replaced as they used to do better things with us. We get lots of cheese here which I don't like so I go out and buy Caribbean food myself.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your thoughts and feedback. It is important for us to receive feedback as it helps us make improvements to meet your needs and wellbeing.

We feel it is important that there is awareness of all cultures across our services. We feel your suggestions for the artist to cover cultural art is a fantastic suggestion! I think it would be useful for you to highlight this to your MDT in community meetings. The community meetings are weekly and are designed to be open spaces for you to raise such issues with your team. These issues can then be resolved and improvements made. You could also speak to your MDT and ask them to support you to find Caribbean recipes. The Music TI could also support you explore your singing interests.

I have passed on your comments with regard to the multi-faith room and Church attendance to Chaplaincy.

It is good to hear how important your faith is to you and how reading the Bible is important. Your comments on the multi-faith room present an issue we have tried to tackle before. Due to the space being multi-faith we are limited to what can be displayed not to prevent some faiths using the space. By keeping it plain, as many people as possible can use it. We are exploring the idea of putting up some artwork to make the space more appealing.

Being able to access local churches is a great thing to do, but we understand the constraints of community leave you have. We would recommend that you discuss this with your MDT to see if arrangements can be made to allow you to attend. You can also contact the chaplaincy & spiritual care service by using the hot buttons on the patient phones to discuss this further if you wish for our help in discussing this with the MDT.
