"Richard has Down's Syndrome ..."

What I liked

Richard has Down's Syndrome and severe arthritis in his hips. He fell and broke his leg on a visit to London, Christmas '08. He was treated/operated on at St George's, Tooting, a very big busy, modern hospital, and has been transferred back to Sudbury, his home town, where he and is currently recovering in Walnut Tree Hospital. He is very warm and cosy there and the staff are wonderfully helpful and accommodating. The ward is spotlessly clean, light and very spacious. The bed-to-bed distance is greater than in the London hospital and I am sure that the individual attention he gets is far greater than in the larger establishment. For as long as I can remember WTH has been under threat of closure and, whilst it is slightly rundown externally, it does offer a sympathetic, stress-free recuperative environment to the elderly people of Sudbury.
