What I liked
I had the misfortune of ending up in A&E. The speed with which I was seen, and an excellent Nurse who treated me with care and respect on arrival and quickly adminstered strong pain relief.
What could be improved
I'd had a bad attack of sciatica and as such I could neither walk, stand or sit, only lie down and then I couldn't get up again. The second nurse seemed to want me out as an irritation eventhough I hadn't asked for a single thing and had immediately fallen asleep after being dosed up with very strong drugs. She came in woke me and asked me what I was still doing there, which was a bit of a shock question as nobody had discharged me and I had been given no mediciations to take with me. I advised her I was waiting for my husband to which she replied I needed to get dressed. I was in severe pain, frightened and alone but made not one iota of fuss, this woman treated me asthough I was spoiling her day.She was rude, surly and I would suggest, not cut out for the caring profession.
Anything else?
This is my second visit to A&E within 9 years and it seems there are still some uncaring, unprofessional staff at Good Hope, the registrar even suggested I lie on my prescription in order not to pay, given the state of the NHS's finances this is hardly good advise. On the plus side on both occassions I have met excellent staff too and have been seen quickly.
