my birthing plan was to go to the midwifery led unit, the staff are friendly and really nice. however due to complications I had to be transferred to the ward above, and my baby was deliverd via forcep and episotomy. however it was from that point that the service went down hill, because I suffered third degree tears I had to stay in hospital. all I can say is that make sure you have someone with you because the aftercare service is so poor.
also I'm sick of nurses saying that breast feeding is the best thing...its very hard and I had my baby on my breast for 6 hours, when I mentioned this no one seemed to care...so please make sure you take milk formula with you.
I was also given antibiotics and as a result ended up with vaginal thrush and I gave my baby oral thrush because at that point I was breast feeding....again this is quite common side effect yet no one mentioned that this might happen it was only as few days later that I self diagnosed myself and baby that I went to the gp.
also before I had to leave hospital I had to give a wee sample that's all very well if your given water..the staff are on the assumption that you get up and get it yourself...which is pretty hard to do when you have just had surgery and being iterally stiched from hole to hole. the whole experience has made me anxious to have another child at new cross.
In a nutshell the staff at mid wife lead unit are nice, take milk formula, make sure someone like a family memeber bring you food and water.
"please read befor you go"
