I took a friend with heart failure, in a very extreme state of bad health, and after the first 20 minutes had to go a park my car. I am disabled, and can walk very short distances. Not having received any help from the parking office. I parked the car quite far from the A & E department.
With difficulty I reached the Oncology Department and asked a lady coming our from there if she knew a way to get from inside the hospital into the A&E department. She didn't but asked a someone who worked in that department the same question. They said the shortest way was to go into the street and coming round a fence that stands in therre. I explainded that I could not walk any more, I was in dreadfull pain. so they asked me to wait there and proceeded to return to the Oncology department and spoke to the receptionist there, they indicated to me that I could sit in there and wait and left. I was desparate, My friend was my next of kin and he was extremely ill. The member of staff had disappeared to look for a Porter, Found no one so they brought a wheelchair and offer to take me. I felt verry embarassed but they insisted. They took me all the way, I am an OAP and very heavy,. On the way to A&E we met with what seemed to me to be one of their colleagues who made a remark about them doing porters work now. They said something I didi not cathc what. This member of staff was a God Sent for me, I found my friend in Emergency who was saved by the brilliand work the professional of the department . I would like to leave here my inmense gratitude to this strong and good hearted person that saw my desparation in that difficult situation .
"Extremely Caring, Humane Staff Member."
