I have attended Stroud rheumatology clinic for a number of years. It's my local hospital and convenient, with free parking. That's fortunate, because on every occasion my appointment has been delayed. Not by 10 minutes, or 15 or 20, but on average between 45min and an hour. I can accept that sometimes appointments and clinics run late because of emergencies, but on every occasion? That suggests a more systemic problem: too many patients, not enough time allotted? NHS targets to be met?
Today I waited over 90 minutes for an appointment that lasted less than 5. Admittedly I was furious and did not engage in dialogue in any way over and above what was necessary. I left work early today so that I could make my appointment in good time. SMS notifications might be helpful in such circumstances so that I don't have to waste my time, and occupy space in the car park and waiting rooms if such delays exist.
I have asked to be discharged back to my GP and, in the event my condition worsens, I shall seek a referral elsewhere.
I hasten to add that the staff I saw were all faultless. Professional throughout and great ambassadors for the NHS
"Great hospital. Shame about the waiting"
