"rude, arrogant, patronising the list could go on"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

I was referred to the ENT dept for balance testing the doctor who saw me did not introduce themself. i said one word "vertigo" and they diagnosed me with "Labyrinthitis" i disagreed and tried to explain the rest of my condition as a specialist had already diagnosed this to be cervical vertigo, they were trying to put words into my mouth whilst i was explaining and over speaking me advising "no no no it feels like you're on a boat". i disagreed and advised that i had a car accident and the majority of the pain stems from my neck then the vertigo comes. They brushed me off and advised the vertigo had subsided and become declaimant i looked at them in shock as if to say why are you speaking to me like this? are you not a medical professional? They then became patronising and said "declaimant not claimant as in compensation" i was utterly blown away. This doctor made me feel like a liar, they said "i suppose we'll see after the tests". They then carried out the testing said nothing to me just told me what to do when it came to each part of the test they then carried out a caloric test after doing each ear they would exit the room shout 2 minute break and i wouldn't see them for 5 mins when the testing was done they said i was done and they would send it to the doctor. nothing to wipe my face or ear with considering they just blasted my ears with water. They just had their back to me. i asked when will the dizziness go they said it should have gone and said nothing more. The doctor had such an attitude which was not professional at all.

i exited the room feeling really horrible about myself as if i had done something wrong there was no level of care at this appointment the doctor treated me like and made me feel like i was worthless.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We were very concerned to read your comments as the standard of service you describe in your ENT consultation is not at all the one we aim to provide.

We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this in more detail and would ask you to please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01772 522972 who will be able to liaise informally with the ENT department on your behalf.
