Jonathan Welbeck, my brother, a nurse spent his last weeks ( 23/11/16-19/12/16) on Harry Seacomb Ward during he had several devastating news, making him terminal. He was very calm, difficult to fantom how he felt. He was grateful to all the busy dedicated knowledgeable staff.
I was extremely upset shocked over the suddenness of it all. I just wanted and managed to be with him everydayDiscreet about being medic, l was able to observe in slow motion life on the other side of the fence:- busy ward most days, competent staff running about their daily duties efficiently, with dignity and respect every time for Jonathan; sparing time to explain, with some kind words and a smile here and there, thus making his end of life more bearable. Jonathan has been a patient at the hospital before but was particularly touched this time and requested this rewiew on his behalf. He had a special rapour with the nurse, who'll just look at Jonathan and predict oncoming pain and swiftly act on it. Jonathan always had this a radiance when this person was around and that was very pleasing to observe.
Jonathan requested me to recommend 1.
Harry Seacomb for a ward award; 2.The nurse for the nurse of the Nurse of the Year Award if it exists.
I personally will second both I felt the same.
On behalf of the Welbeck family....Thank you to all the staff on Harry Seacomb Ward, Nora.
