From arriving at hospital on the morning of my surgery the staff were amazing, professional and comforting. My surgeons did an amazing job and I am so happy that I went ahead with the surgery even though there were many risks. The anaesthetic team were brilliant, as were the staff on the high dependency ward where I stayed for a few days after surgery. Porters and cleaning staff were very caring and friendly and couldn't do enough to help, however I was disappointed with the nursing staff on the ward where I spent the rest of my time. I was in a lot of pain and often my medication was forgotten. When reminded, the nurses often seemed like it was too much effort. When I was first moved to the ward from high dependency I was bed bound and hadn't walked further than two steps with the help of physio's, however there were no nurses to help me get out of bed to the toilet or to even have a wash. Unfortunately family had to stay the first night to help me with this. Often they were frustrated as when they went to the nurses station they found the nurses unhelpful.
