"I left feeling positive for the future"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Gynaecology Lincoln County Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I went to my antenatal appointment in January (2017) for my 12 week scan. Unfortunately, the baby was diagnosied with a neutral tube defect which we were told had a 100% mortality rate after birth. After my scan we sat in a quiet room and the senior midwife in charge, Angela, came to see us. The support, empathy and knowledge she provide us made a awful heartbreaking situation just that little bit easier. She provided us with information and options about what we can do next. At all times it was always about me and what I/we wanted to do. I cannot thank her enough for everything that day (& the day after). We attended the next day and I felt Angela went that extra mile and answered all my questions and requests, even talking me through the scanning process and what they look for while scanning. I never asked or wanted to be in that situation but I feel very lucky that she was on shift and coordinatoring that day.

A week later I spent the day as a day case on Branston ward. Sandra (Staff nurse) looked after me in the morning and treated me with respect and dignity. I automatically felt better when she expressed empathy and sadness for why I was attending. It was important and meant alot to me that the relevant staff knew why I was there and that it was a very hard & upsetting decision I had made.

Sister Dupe came to introduce herself and explained who she was. Her care, compassion, communication and leadership was that to be admired. She is a credit to Branston ward and I can imagine she is a great role model to all bands of staff to look up too. Later on in the day, I felt something wasnt right and she took time to investigate this further - even to the point she was late of her shift making sure I had the correct procedure and then making sure I was doing ok after.

I recently attended the gynae clinic and met Miss Argwal for the second time. The first time I met her was the day of my scan, she was working up on bardney ward and kindly came down to review my scan. I was very thankful she saw me for a follow up appt. She was very understanding, caring and informative. She discussed all my future options with me. I left feeling positive for the future.

Thank you antenatal and gynae x
