"It is too early to say what it is like here"

About: Medium Secure Division / Cranford

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have only been here for a few days so it is too early to say what it is like. I have just arrived here from prison. I wouldn't say that prison is better, but I was expecting to do an exercise session here today but it is not happening and I am not sure why. Nobody has told me why it is not on. I have problems using the patients telephone on the ward. When I press the number I just get a buzzing. I have seen my doctor since I am here. he seems good and has picked up some physical health problems that I have and is going to arrange to get them looked at. My brother will come to see me on Sunday and I was glad when I heard that he will be here. I am a little concerned about being here because it is new and it's about the unknown that worries me. I haven't been offered any sessions yet and no one has really told me the routine apart from what I have read in the brochure that I received before I got here. My bedroom is good and it is fine here.

I am happy to read that your bedroom is good and that you feel fine here albeit a little uncertain. I think that is natural when moving into a new environment and so it is great that we were able to support a visit from your family quite quickly. It is great news that you have some confidence in your doctor and I hope that you can build similarly positive relationships with the other staff here to support you. I understand that at the time of your message there was a problem with the patient phone and I hope this has been resolved. I apologise that the session on the unit was cancelled and not communicated to you properly. The ward has been working to develop a local guide to the unit which will explain things like the ward routine and what you can expect to happen in the first week of arriving. I am sorry that this would not have been developed at the point of your admission but your feedback is instrumental in being able to improve things and develop our service to be more responsive to your and other patient’s needs.
