"Poor service from nurse practitioner"

About: Huddersfield Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency Local Care Direct - Huddersfield Royal Infirmary

(as a relative),

My son attended care direct with his sister after consulting NHS helpline. His symptoms were excessive weight loss over 3 weeks and high blood sugar (this had been tested that day) He was seen be a nurse practitioner who assessed him and told him to go home and see go to GP on Monday. Both my son and daughter protested and it was only when he stated that he would go into a&e that they actually listened. They then contacted a&e who wanted to see him straight away. He was put on a drip and spent the night in HRI and was diagnosed with ketoacidosis and has type 1 diabetes on insulin newly diagnosed. I worry that professionals do not listen to patients and some have poor diagnostic skills.

Thanks for your feedback. It looks like once admitted to A&E your son was given the treatment he required. The Care Direct team are not part of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. It may be better to raise this with them directly. The link to their contact page is: http://www.localcaredirect.org/get-in-touch/
