I attended the cataract department on Wednesday 15th February at 08:30, having been referred from Pinderfields Hospital Wakefield. All the staff I came into contact with, before seeing the consultant were very polite and friendly. Sadly my time with the consultant was one I do not wish to repeat. I felt I was partaking in an interrogation, this consultant was not at all patient, and was very abrupt. I am 67 years of age and I had difficulty understanding what they were saying, they did not make me feel at ease. Their bedside manner is severely lacking and is in need of improving. Their only saving grace was the expertise in diagnosing my problem. This consultant needs to show a lot more respect when dealing with patients (in my case). There was also a difference of opinion between the consultants at Pinderfields and Dewsbury. Pinderfields said my cataracts were significant, in both eyes Dewsbury said they weren't but would go ahead with my left eye because Pinderfields requested the procedure. The consultant at Pinderfields was very courteous and made me feel at ease.
