I'm afraid I do not welcome the way that some of the staff speak to the visitors on Orchid ward, although I can only judge from my personal experience. When a reasonable question is asked, there seems to be an attitude of "I'm putting you in your place....we know best", so there needs to be an improvement in some of the staffs manner and this is from 'top, down'. I presume that each visitor is concerned about 'their own' relative, being a patient, hence it is not welcomed when comparisons are made to the other patients situations; we have come to visit that particular patient, hence we are concerned about their needs and their needs alone, with all due respect to the other patients. On leaving the ward, I witnessed some visitors being shouted at as to how old they were......It appeared that these visitors were utterly amazed that they were being spoken to in such a manner; I regarded as a matter of complete disrespect and all staff should be very aware of displaying an excellent bedside manner, at all times, whether it be to the patients or visitors. One appreciates that the staff have a challenging job to do but high standards need to be maintained.
