"Therapy taken at the Priory has ruined our..."

About: Priory Hospital Ticehurst

My daughter has been having EMDR therapy there after her psychiatrist had decided she must be suffering from sexual abuse at between 5 and 7 years old. She is now 47. Something she heard triggered this and her psychiatrist said that they thought her problem was that! Unprofessional!! They even told her that they knew cases when this happened when she doubted that the man could do such a thing. Unprofessional! And Thus giving my daughter carte blanche to mix up memories from her past and draw the wrong conclusion. She became so much worse after processing retrieved memories and completely misinterpreting them . She stopped for a while and when I asked her why she had stopped she said that her therapist thought she'd better as she might remember something so horrific that she would become suicidal! How absolutely unprofessional is that. I think that EMDR may have its place in dealing with bad memories which actually happened but not trying to remember ones from 40 years before which didn't or had been distorted. And many mental health practitioners share the same view.
