"Flexible Sigmoidoscopy"

About: Glenfield Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Today was the day I'd been eagerly awaiting for the past week, my first Flexible Sigmoidoscopy; naturally I'd consulted Dr Google about the procedure & read all of the horror stories to prepare! I'd also called the Endoscopy department more times than I care to remember, as I have complex mental health problems & has to know every. little. detail - sorry about that Nurses!

I have to say to anyone who is anxious about this procedure, especially if Ward 25E are doing it, don't be!

I sat down to wait to be called, and the lovely Receptionist - I think her name was Jean? - noticed I wasn't coping with the noise/people etc and came & took me to an quiet room where I could wait alone. . . I didn't even need to ask & had been considering leaving!

Every single staff member that spoke to me was amazing; they all put me at ease & while I'd planned to have gas & air, I didn't use it at all & it didn't hurt in the slightest! Yes, it is slightly uncomfortable but it's honestly not at all painful. The Nurses spoke to me about what I could see on the screen, and what would happen next & answered everything I threw at them

As someone with very intense emotions, who doesn't cope in medical situations where I have no control & who was there alone, I couldn't fault a single thing. I was out before lunch, and can't believe I ever worried!

Thank you to all who looked after me today, I'm very grateful!

Dear reviwer, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Gastroenterology at Glenfield Hospital.

We are very pleased that you had such a positive experience particularly as you had been very nervous about the whole procedure and that our staff recognised the signs and took the necessary care and action to help support you.

We know our staff do a great job, but it is very much appreciated when a patient (or family member) acknowledges the treatment and care they have received.

Your comments will be forwarded to the teams involved in your procedure.

Thank you again, best wishes Communications Team, Leicester's Hospitals.
