My recent experience in Torbay Hospital was entirely positive: the surgical and anaesthetic care, nursing, physiotherapy, catering, pain relief and attention to detail made the patient the priority at every stage. Everyone involved was professional but approachable and nothing was too much trouble. Amongst the staff, were some from mainland Europe who were a credit to their home countries but fearful of their future under Brexit. The hospital would struggle to function without their contribution. Amidst all this positivity it was odd that at 1630 on a Saturday, a porter could not be found to wheel me from the ward to the main entrance to discharge me. Maybe this was connected to the fact that at the time the rugby was on TV!! My poor husband waited an hour until a nurse kindly volunteered to take me.
