"Midwife complaining to me about colleague"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I had a very long labour and had 2 midwifes with me as I was in the medical ward. During my labour all the midwife done was argue with the other about how they were not doing things right including cleaning their cupboards out. I think they paid more attention to the cupboards and what the other wasn't doing than they did about me. Then when the other left on break they complained to us about them. Not something I want to hear and very unprofessional.

After a very long night having an epidural all we wanted was a little sleep I had been in hospital getting induced from the Sunday it was now going into the Wednesday morning all we wanted was to try get an hour sleep but we couldn't from them arguing. 5am came and my epidural needed changed after about 30 minutes I started getting pains I told the midwife and was told that everything was fine and that because I had been pressing it too much it had stopped working.

It then took till 8. 30 for two new midwife to come on shift then get someone in to check where they then found out it wasn't working any more I had to get it manually topped up every half hour. It was then also picked up that my babies heart rate kept dropping and a consultant had to keep checking me. 2pm came when I had to go for a section after the epidural not working the spinal then wouldn't work which resulted in going under a general anaesthetic. The second midwifes were absolutely amazing, but I'm disgusted with the way we were treated by the first one.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Lmcc,

Oh I am sorry, this is not what we expect your care to be like. Giving birth can often be a variable experience, but this should not be one of those variables.

I appreciate that this is a very busy time for you and your, looking after your new wee bundle, but if you can find time to contact me we can look into this. I can be contacted on 01563 826222 and eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk. Should you want to contact me but you don't get round to it for a wee while, that is ok, just contact me when things are getting easier.

I will pass this to the meantime for their review meantime.

Congratulations on your new wee bundle of joy, I hope you are getting some sleep.

best wishes,

Eunice
