"I am very grateful having 95% recovery from stroke"

About: Northern General Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

On a morning in April 2007 after a nightshift in Hull I suffered a stroke and on the quick thinking of my wife - an ex nursing sister - was, within 1 hour, treated by paramedics outside our house. I was transferred to Northern General Hospital after being stabalised. I spent some time waiting before spending the first night on a several medical ward.

I was then transferred to the stroke unit and spent the next 14 days there from to discharge and subsequent home visits and exercises by visiting physiotherapists. Treatment in hospital and subsequently to restore my balance - the effect of the stroke - was excellent and I was much more fortunate than many on my ward.

My GP has subsequently kept an eye on my medication and blood pressure. I feel I was well treated by the NHS and I am very grateful to them having made a 95% recovery.
