"poor and unacceptable treatment"

About: The Great Western Hospital

i was sent to the GWH as i had experienced a change in bowel habits and prostate pain so on the due date I arrived with my partner not knowing quite what to expect.

The consultation lasted around ten minutes.

I began by explaining that I had suffered severe pain from the prostate and had already experienced diarrhea for several years but before I got any further we were bluntly told that I was there because my Dr had suspected colorectal cancer.

This was a huge surprise but even more so was the cold and beyond blunt attitude from the consultant them self who saw me more of a byproduct to his profession than as a human being.

Having had a renal transplant some years ago and always suspecting that the anti rejection medications were the cause of the diarrhea, I needed to know at that stage more about the procedure that was proposed and the NHS health choices available to me but never were these discussed.

A basic rectal colonoscopy was subsequently arranged after, but again as we have researched, there are other less intrusive, less risk engaging initial procedures now available to patients such as a Virtual CT colonoscopy and these are far more accurate to that which was booked without any further discussion.

Problems also arose regarding the bowel flushing medications that were sent out prior to this procedure.

Because of failing renal transplant with a low GRF of between 13-17 I simply cannot tolerate drinking large amounts of fluid as I cannot pee it out and this was explained.

Eventually I was sent senna pills and also two sachets of Magnesium Carbonate, but had i been unwise to have taken it I would have ingested almost 24,000MG of heavy magnesium - more than enough to have caused total kidney failure in the circumstances, and at the very least, serious problems with what is left of my renal function.

it seems this hospital really has serious miscommunication problems in more ways than one.

For my part, I really do not feel confident in having any further procedures done here now and will try to find an alternative hospital that has a more considerate and attentive approach to my healthcare
