Having fallen and harmed my ankle in the week before Christmas, I went to A and E needing x-Ray. My triple fracture must have been entirely routine for a general hospital. But I was enormously helped by the kindness, competence and thoughtfulness shown to me despite the acute pressure on the NHS I was kept informed (and fed) while waiting for a bed to be found.
Operated on the next morning. Seen promptly by Physiotherapists with a "can do" attitude to meet my urgent wish to return home. The porter from the discharge lounge even waited at the front door with me until my son found me.
My point is that the care was routine in hospital terms but given with such grace and kindness.
