"Visiting the new ward before you move is so helpful"

About: Locked & Specialist Rehab / Spencer South

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I feel a lot more supported on this ward especially by staff when buying personal items in town. They have helped me with money issues so I specifically want to thank the OT.

Some of the staff do have an attitude and talk down to patients which can be uncomfortable. I would like to talk about transition as I have different experiences, The best transition was from Seacole to Spencer South and the worse was from Sunley to Seacole. With the best transition, I received a lot of staff support and visited the new ward first. I would visit and participate in community meetings. Visiting the ward really helped. My new Care coordinator came over to meet me first and this made it a lot better as I knew people before I moved. It helped with the buddy system.

Thank you for adding your story to Patient Opinion. I am pleased to learn that you are feeling so supported on Spencer South and that the staff are assisting you with buying personal items.

We will certainly pass on your comments regarding staff attitude to the Nurse Manager, Jodie, and ensure that she addresses this in her staff meetings.

I also find it interesting that your experience of transitions from ward to ward differed for the different areas and again, we will take these comments on board and I will speak to the Nurse Manager for Sunley and Seacole, Barry.

It is great to hear that you received so much staff support and were able to visit Spencer South prior to your move and could even take part in the community meeting and meet your Care Coordinator and I can see how this would help in your transfer.

Thanks again for your comments and I hope we can use this to improve transitions for other patients in the future.
