As a diabetic I have valued the regular check-ups and feet treatment I have received from Warrington PCT, for me it was first class.
On my last appointment, the subject of overspending by the PCT came up. From the information I gleaned on that occasion the podiatry service is now subject to some drastic changes. Changes which will inevitable have an impact on patients and diabetics in particular.
For example: Recruitment has been stopped. Staff who leave are not to being replaced. A large number of podiatrist have recently left or are about to leave the service which will lead to a backlog of treatments for patients.
As far as diabetics are concerned, newly diagnosed diabetics are not automatically being referred (as was the case). These patients will now be placed on a waiting list for podiatry by their GPs. Only the more serious cases will be given a prompt appointment for treatment.
