I felt unwell with a numb left arm to go with it! After pacing around for a number of hours, anxiety got the better of me and I drove myself to Portsmouth. After parking miles away from A&E of course - guess I must have followed the wrong signs - a nurse spoke with me the moment I walked though the doors and passed my details on to the main reception. After only moments I was speaking with them, and in less than 5 minutes after that I was hooked up to be tested by the same nurse that greeted me. Health issues were noted, but not with my heart apparently. I was seen my a duty GP after said nurse had consulted with them and have been referred on to other services. Given the resources and time these people have, I was highly impressed and personally grateful to all the people I had contact with: main receptionist (who directed me to the other side of the hospital, as I had parked in the wrong place), first contact nurse (took details, hooked me up to machines and investigated beyond just their ecg machine), A&E receptionist (identified me, address and things like that), and the GP who was nice to me even though it seemed they had had a very long day.
"Last night (a Saturday evening) I went to A&E"
