"We can only most highly commend the care our son received"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Accident & emergency Good Hope Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

My son,  ruptured his Achilles tendon at work. Due to pressures at the hospital he had to wait 13 days for the emergency repair which went very well.

A month later he returned to work. At work, after the Christmas break  he was taken to A&E in the early hours by his wife as he had extreme chest pain. Because his surgery was less than 4 weeks previously the medical staff did a blood test as they were worried about him.

The next morning the blood test showed a raised D dimer and he immediately had a CT scan which confirmed 'lots' of small clots in both lungs.

The next day he was discharged home. A day later he felt most unwell at work and was taken to GHH by his wife as he was in immense pain in the chest.

At A&E he was recognised by a nurse to be most unwell and rushed through where he was given oxygen and morphine. A diagnosis of pneumonia was confirmed (along with the clots and risk of PE) and he was in AMU for a few days. He received the most excellent care throughout his two trips to A &E and particularly during his 4 day stay.

We are all constantly told that the NHS is in crisis but we can only most highly commend the care our son received. We are so grateful for all the acre and attention your staff showed our son, his wife and his  daughter.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Dear ARCHER FAN

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding your son's treatment and care at Good Hope Hospital, both under the Trauma and Orthopaedic Service, as well as Accident and Emergency and the Acute Medicine Services.

I'm so pleased to read that his Achilles Tendon repair surgery went very well, despite the 13 day wait for emergency surgery, that your son recovered well from that.

I'm sure it was very worrying for all of the family when your son was taken unwell at work after suffering chest pain. Im delighted to read that he received excellent care and treatment at all times despite the pressures the NHS are under at the moment, and was treated with care throughout.

I do hope that your son is now recovering well from everything he has been through, and I would like to reassure you that I will highlight your feedback to each of the Matrons and Clinical Leads for the services that looked after your son, and they will ensure that your thanks is communicated to all of their respective staff who work very hard to provide and promote a positive patient experience.

I hope my actions are acceptable and once again thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, it is very important to us.

Kind regards

Marie Helebert
