"More activities and quicker response from staff"

About: Men's mental health / Sherwood

(as a student nurse),

I am on Sherwood and I like to do activities but haven't really managed to do many activities so far. I would like to go to the library and to the gym. There is an activity co-coordinator on my ward but he gets pulled into other duties.

I like cooking and cook a lot of things. I think this will help me in the outside world. More activities will keep me going. Today has been a really good day as I have been resting and got to come out today.

Something else that I think needs to improve is the attitude of staff to the patients. You can knock the big window on the ward and they don't respond which makes me feel bad. I think a quicker response sometimes would be better.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. It really is important to keep busy in between therapy sessions and have some 'me' time to do things you like to do. The Activity Co-ordinator post is quite new and I think they are still finding their feet a bit. I will pick this up with the Nurse Manager and get some assurance for myself that the Activity nurse is used appropriately. I will also feed back your comments about the attention of staff. Staff are often busy but I recognise how frustrating it would be to just be ignored. If you don't see improvement, please speak to your Nurse Manager directly

Many thanks Lynn
