I attended the urology day surgery clinic at the New Victoria Hospital in Glasgow, and as a health professional I am deeply disappointed by the communication and engagement skills of the very experienced consultant who treated me.
Firstly he never even introduced himself as we have never met and I only knew who he was as the nurse pointed him out in the background prior to him beginning the procedure. His response following completion was "its fine" and walked away. I feel that only my own assertiveness and knowledge allowed me to re engage him to discuss further my problem.
I did find the nursing staff excellent and they almost apologised on his behalf, saying they "have tried". I am passionate about patient care in the NHS and am concerned for patients who don't have any health knowledge and how they may be feeling after such an encounter. So sad that I have to express this view of a professional! 🙁
